Reverend Mortis & The Blustery Day

category Category: Mad Ramblings | comment Tags:
Ok, short post tonight because A) USC KILLED my Buckeyes on Saturday & I’m still recovering (not to mention Oregon’s damn luck at beating a clearly superior Boilermaker offense in Double OT).  Why do both games matter, you ask?  Because I AM a Boilermaker but I live in Columbus.  Plus my money goes to OSU thru my daughter so yes, both games matter.  Moving along . . .

B) We lost power for over six hours today due to 75 (!!!) mph winds brought on by Ike.  Nothing like seeing your neighbors trash can levitated about 4 feet in the air before dumping into your own front yard.

With six hours of dark, the family and I hit my local watering hole (which still had power), watched the Steelers/Browns game and took advantage of the complimentary AC & electricity.  When a call home was greeted by my answering machine, I knew it was ok to return.

Lucky kids have tomorrow off (school’s are closed all over due to this mess) & my neighbors on either side have suffered massive roof damage.  My two year old roof held up, thankfully.  Still, this is nothing compared to what the Texans are experiencing – so please keep them in your thoughts & prayers.

Mother Nature – she’s a bitch sometimes.

It wasn’t luck for Oregon, it was poor coaching by Tiller. They had plenty of time to get into easy field goal range at the end of the game. Instead, they asked the kicker to make a 44 year field goal into a stiff cross wind.

Then in overtime with 2nd and 12 from the 12, they ran up the middle, a play that had worked exactly once all day, on the 2nd play of the game. It failed, and we settled for a tie in the first OT.

Tiller’s retirement can’t come soon enough.

Agreed, the definition of insanity is to continually try the same thing expecting different results each time. Can’t make a 44 yard field goal, let’s attempt a 47 instead.

But Purdue’s loss pales in comparison to the circus sideshow which was the second half of the OSU/USC game. Once again, we had a chance to at least lose with dignity – perhaps restoring a bit of respect to the Big Ten – but instead couldn’t even muster a touchdown. Ok, we did get a touchdown but due one of MANY penalities in the game, it was taken back. Aaarrrggh.
