Did Coldplay Rip-off Joe Satriani?

Blabbermouth.net - Death & Litigation week continues here at the Rim of Hell with an examination of the Joe Satriani vs. Coldplay infringement lawsuit.  Yeah, I know – pretty unlikely pair of musical acts to be involved in a legal dispute.  What’s next – The Sex Pistols suing Fiona Apple?  GWAR suing Neil Diamond??  Guns N’ Roses suing Dr. Pepper. . . oh wait, nevermind.

So anyhow, Ole’ Satch is accusing. . .and by accusing I mean pressing legal action towards. . . Coldplay of ripping off his song “If I could Fly” in their own song entitled “No One Will Notice”, I mean “Viva La Vida”.  See what illegal downloading causes, boys & girls.  Random acts of accusation!

Except that if you follow the Blabbermouth link above, you’ll not only hear the various press released quotes from each group defending their actions but also a nifty Youtube video which plays both songs, and then OVERLAPS them so you can compare.  Know what?  There’s about a 1 or 2 note difference between them – IF THAT.

I’m not saying it was intentional – heck, with musicians who knows what influences might creep into their work.  Right Jack & Kyle?
