Still Alive, Barely

Ok, it’s been a month without an update so I think an explanation might be in order. In the past 30 days, I have left my old job, started at a new, more challenging position but unfortunately, lost my Father in the meantime. Out of respect for my family – I put them first.

But fear not, intrepid visitors – The Rev ain’t done listening, writing or sermonizing. Gimme a few more days. . . the Rim of Hell will be alive again!

I feel more legitimate already. The back reads “Candor Dat Viribus Alas”. Latin, and roughly translated, means “Truth Gives Wings To Strength”. For everyone who’s ever been unhappy with one of my reviews . . . something to think about. All I’m sayin’.

Just a quick update to wish everyone a Happy New Year. One of my resolutions is to update more often, despite the fact that 2011 looks to be busier than ever! I received a few interesting gifts that will bear mentioning later, and of course – more concerts are on the horizon too.

Happy Halloween

For My family, Halloween is akin to Christmas. Not that we’re all evil or sinister (most of us, anyways) but we enjoy the decorations, the mood and the general festivity of the season.

Tonight we’re hosting our 2nd annual Halloween Hootananny – not my choice of names but “2nd Annual Halloween Death & Splatter Festival” got vetoed by the powers that be. Anyways, friends will be dropping by in costume, we’ll be cranking out creepy music by the likes of Midnight Syndicate, Nox Arcana or any of the plethora of sound effects CD’s I have (I kind of collect them. . cough, cough Horror Geek cough).

Here’s hoping you go celebrate the holiday with family & friends; go to a costume party or at the very least a haunted house. I went to Terrorfest this year – more on that in a later post. But make the most of the season ’cause Old Man Winter will be here before you know it.

Off To Cancun

My wife and I will be celebrating our 20th anniversary this week in Cancun, Mexico. So, no updates are likely for a while, but will fill you in on our trip to the ruins, snorkeling and drinking on the beach when I return.

Sadly, my early departure tomorrow necessitates me missing GWAR tonight at the Newport Music hall. Sucks. Would really like to have seen them again. Ah well, Viva Mexico!

Rock n’ Resort starts tomorrow (well technically some crazies are there tonight, but my peeps won’t be there until the ‘morrow). I will be wired for this event, so we’ll see what kind of madness ensues, eh? 3am blog updates by the campfire? perhaps. . .

Still, will most likely be quiet here at the Rim whilst I get involved in this mayhem for the third year in a row. Ah, but the stories to be told later, such fun we’ll have.

Scared ya’, didn’t I? Thought this was a goodbye post – go on, admit it! That means some of you were disheartened, most didn’t care – and a few of you fuckers actually cheered. I know who you are. . .

Anyhow nope, you’re not so lucky. I’m sticking around provided I remember to pay my server fees. I WILL be quite busy over the summer so the posting, as you may have already noticed, might become more sporadic than usual.

But take heart I will still be out there somewhere, shades on and a cold bottle of beer in my hand. And as long as I’m out & about there will be stories to post so keep checking back, mmmk? I still haven’t gotten around to telling the story of when Susan Wallace of Switchblade Symphony threatened to kick my ass from onstage. She’s a nice girl, I like her.

Sad news about the passing of George Carlin on Sunday.
His was a unique and pioneering voice in the world of comedy. . . one that won’t be replaced.

I remember seeing him do the ‘Seven Words You Can’t Say on TV’ live in Dayton, only by this time in his career it had grown to a literal dictionary of profanity. He couldn’t even read the whole thing in concert anymore – only select excerpts. My fav – “Tits. Sounds like a snack. I know, I know – it is!”.

The man has more quotes circulating the internet than probably the Pope and the last 7 presidents combined. And most make more sense.

Thanks for the laughs George. We’ll miss you!
